The company has received honors for its effective environmental, social and governance activities through external collaboration.
UCB Japan Company Co., Ltd. Recognized at the 2025 Healthcare Pharma Awards, which praised the company for updating the accident-free record of the Saitama plant and using 100% renewable energy in its Saitama plant.
Since 2017, the Saitama plant has maintained contracts with renewable energy suppliers. However, energy providers face difficulties in ensuring stable supply due to the impact of the Theukraine situation and other challenges in 2022.
Despite the obstacles, Japan’s UCB did not turn to conventional electricity, but instead found a new renewable energy supplier and arranged a non-fossil fuel certificate.
In addition to its commitment to sustainability, UCB Japan also promotes active community engagement. For example, at the Saitama plant, employees participate in the “plogging” activities in the surrounding areas every month. The activity is a combination of jogging and picking up garbage, a simple and influential program that encourages employees from different departments to work together. It also strengthens communication and promotes a “one team” mindset while contributing to cleaner communities and safer workplaces.
In addition, Japan’s UCB teamed up with the Iruma City Industrial Association to participate in its first community project, “Kasumi River Cleanup”. This effort is aligned with Citizen Cleanup Day and brings local industries and residents together to support environmental initiatives.
Japan UCB Japan further encouraged social responsibility and launched a dedicated intranet website in 2024 to support employee volunteer services. The platform makes it easier for employees to find volunteer opportunities and share their experiences. This way, more than 60 employees participated in Social Action Day in 2024 alone, another program that supports well-being and community engagement.
In addition, Japan UCB Japan sponsored and participated in a charity event supporting Ronald McDonald’s House in October 2024. This organization provides a family environment for families of sick children. A total of 21 employees participated in the competition and joined people of all ages and abilities to increase awareness and empathy for patients. The event provides employees with the opportunity to connect with the wider community and reflect on Japan’s purpose outside the workplace.
UCB Japan is also proud to announce that it sponsors the Belgian Pavilion at the Osaka Expo in 2025 with the theme of “Designing the Society of the Future for Our Life”. Through this, the UCB in Japan will mark the contribution of raising awareness of disease and advancing healthcare solutions and life sciences. The event planned for this event is designed to demonstrate the commitment of UCB to improve life through medicine, and to attract public curiosity and promote innovation.
